Cloud Service Models
CRGT delivers secure, cloud-based solutions with a focus on innovation and client partnership. We offer our clients a comprehensive suite of secure cloud services supported by a robust operations model. We provide complete management consulting and engineering support for any of the deployment models being pursued:
- Public Cloud – This model is one in which an IT organization or service provider makes resources, such as applications and storage, available for publically available use over the Internet. Public cloud services may be provided for free or offered on a pay-per-usage model, and are typically focused at serving a constituent market.
- Private Cloud – This model is also commonly referred to as ‘Internal Cloud’, is one in which an IT organization assumes the role of service provider in order to deliver resources to a corporate or government workforce behind its own firewall. Typically used of a private cloud environment would include application services, development environments, testing resources, etc. Private cloud services may be provided for free or offered on a charge-back basis to the various organizations based on actual consumption.
- Community Cloud – This model might be established where several organizations have similar requirements and seek to share infrastructure in order to realize some of the benefits of cloud computing. With the costs spread over fewer users than a public cloud (but more than a single tenant or private cloud) this option offers a higher level of privacy, security and/or policy compliance, along with some economic benefit over a private cloud solution.
- Hybrid Cloud – This model establishes a mixed architecture solution where an organization establishes a private cloud infrastructure, but extends it to leverage publically available cloud resources. A common example is the Virtual Private Cloud (VPM), in which organizations extend its private cloud with something like Amazon Simple Storage Services (Amazon S3), a public cloud services, leveraging virtual partitioning to maintain the integrity of data security throughout. Ideally, the hybrid approach allows a business to take advantage of the scalability and cost-effectiveness that a public cloud computing environment offers without exposing mission-critical applications and data to third-party vulnerabilities.
CRGT can help you determine and implement any combination of the three primary cloud service models:
- Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) – This model enables its users to consume application services running on a cloud infrastructure without any interaction or awareness of the technology. Such applications are accessible from various client devices through a thin client interface such as a web browser (e.g., web-based email). CRGT has provided SaaS-based services for its customer dating back many years, to include one of the largest Email-as-a-Service (EaaS) solutions in the government.
- Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) – This Cloud delivery model combines the computing infrastructure with a complete set of software subsystems and components needed to develop, test, deploy, host and maintain applications in the same integrated development environment. The customer does not need to manage or control the underlying device infrastructure including network, servers, operating systems, or storage, but does maintain control over the deployed applications and possibly application hosting environment configurations. This solution is most typically sought by IT organization as an effective method to offer application developers, test engineers and other a more fully integrated solution than pure IaaS.
- Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) – This model enables the customer to provision processing, storage, networks, and other fundamental computing resources where they are able to deploy and run a broad range of software from operating systems, middleware, database systems to end-facing applications. CRGT can support customers with the development and deployment of an IaaS delivery infrastructure, and can also provide on-going management operations for the underlying cloud infrastructure, while allowing the client to control the operating systems, storage, deployed applications, and necessary control of select networking components (e.g., host firewalls).
